Fawn Reader is designed to be a private reading app. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app stores, what network connections it makes, and how optional analytics and subscriptions work.
If you have questions, contact us at hello@fawnreader.com.
Fawn Reader stores your reading data on your device so the app can provide its core features. This may include:
This data is used to run the app's reading, organization, highlighting, bookmarking, import, export, and sync features.
If iCloud is available and enabled for Fawn Reader, some app data may sync between your Apple devices using Apple's iCloud and CloudKit services. Synced data may include feed subscriptions, categories, tags, bookmarks, highlights, and related app metadata.
Fawn Reader does not operate its own account system for this sync. iCloud sync is handled through your Apple ID and Apple's infrastructure. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policies.
To fetch articles, Fawn Reader connects to the RSS, Atom, JSON Feed, or website endpoints that you choose to subscribe to. Those services are operated by their respective publishers, not by Fawn Reader.
When the app contacts a publisher's server, that publisher or hosting provider may receive ordinary network information, such as your IP address, user agent, request time, and the URL being requested. Their handling of that information is governed by their own privacy policies.
Fawn Reader may use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand app usage, diagnose errors, and improve reliability. App analytics may include events such as app launches, feature usage, errors, device type, operating system version, app version, language, and general region.
The Fawn Reader website may use Google Analytics to understand aggregate website traffic and improve the website. Website analytics are separate from in-app analytics and do not include your reading library.
Fawn Reader does not intentionally send article text, highlight text, feed names, article titles, OPML file contents, or the content of your reading library as analytics.
Analytics can be disabled in the app at:
Settings → Privacy
When app analytics are disabled, Fawn Reader stops sending new analytics events from the app. Some technical information may still be processed by Apple or third-party services as part of normal App Store, iCloud, purchase, crash, website analytics, or network operation.
Fawn Plus subscriptions are purchased through Apple's App Store using StoreKit. Fawn Reader does not receive or store your full payment card details.
Apple processes purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds, billing issues, and subscription management. Fawn Reader uses StoreKit transaction information to determine whether Fawn Plus features should be unlocked.
Fawn Reader does not:
Fawn Reader supports OPML import and export so you can move your feed subscriptions between compatible apps. OPML files are handled only when you choose to import or export them.
You can delete feeds, bookmarks, highlights, and other app data from within the app where those controls are available. You can also remove the app from your device to delete local app data from that device.
Data synced through iCloud may remain available on your other Apple devices or in iCloud according to Apple's iCloud behavior and your device settings.
Fawn Reader is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy as Fawn Reader evolves. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above.
